Android Tutorial | How to Force Move Android Apps to SD Card

How to Force Move The Apps from Phone
This tutorial will guide you to change your default install location to SD Card to save space on your phone's memory even
without root. Also, you will be able to move your applications (excluding system applications) from phone to SD Card.

(Tried and tested on many Android Devices)

By default, an Android device automatically selects its install location once an application is to be installed, and mostly on the phone's memory.

What if you've owned an Android Phone with very low internal memory? Let's say, just about 190 Mb; and you keep on installing Applications
from time to time; not enough! right? What's the use of your 8 Gb, 16 Gb, or 32 Gb memory card? Is it just for storing your application's data,
music, videos, personal files or whatever.

In order to get the full usage of your device, you need to Root it. There are a lot of methods in order to get Root.

CAUTION: Not all rooting process is successful. It is actually a complex process (easy if you're using the update.zip). Some devices are difficult to root.

If you failed during the rooting, then, say BYE-BYE to your Android Phone. Also, if you root your phone, you'll void its warranty.

ROOTING?, We won't discuss that here.

SOLUTION:
We can still force move applications to SD Card without rooting by using Android SDK (Software Development Kit) and by modifying the adb shell (Android Debug Bridge).

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Computer running Windows
  2. Internet Connection for downloading/installing Google USB Drivers
  3. Java --> To check if it's installed on your computer, go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs (XP) or Programs & Features (Win 7, If none, get it here.
  4. Android SDK software, Get it here.
  5. Google USB Drivers (Universal, working for all devices) --> open Android SDK to download and install it.
  6. Compatible USB Data Cable for your Android Phone.
  7. Android Phone (Rooted or NOT).
  8. Patience.
Attention: This is specially for those who successfully followed the instructions, but no "Move to SD" option on their phone's Applications Settings.

If there are no options in the Application Settings to make it move the application to SD CARD. Then, we will use "APP2SDPRO".

Note: Even if you've installed APP2SDPRO but your default installation location is set to zero, all of the apps is not able to basically move APP2SDPRO-SD CARD.

We compare the difference if you install it using the default settings (pm setInstallLocation 0 VERSUS pm setInstallLocation 2).

Let's use default pm setInstallLocation 0

1. Enable USB Debugging in your phone, then connect it to PC via USB Data Cable (Don't Mount SD)
2. Open Command Prompt:
  • type: cd c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools
  • type: adb devices when it was detected
  • type: adb shell a $ symbol will appear
  • type: pm setInstallLocation 0 again, a $ symbol will appear
  • EXIT CMD
3. Remove phone and RESTART...
4. Download and Install APP2SDPRO.apk and open it.
